Yesterday I found a post at Buzzfeed with "22 Messages From Creationists To People Who Believe In Evolution" where 22 smily and cheerful creationist write down a message to evolutonist. Well, as I consider my self an Evolutionist I take up the gauntlet and I have replied every message. It has been really hard since it is pretty difficult to maintain a scientific conversation/debate with a person who starts with arguments like "God exists because sunsets are nice" (not fake, read on). Anyway I did my best. Here are the replies.
I've maintained the original grammar and punctuation of the original messages. Don't blame me. I know there are some outrageous incorrections. I'm responsible only for the replies. ;-)
Message 1. Bill Nye, Are you influencing the minds of children in a positive way?
Reply 1. Do you think influence children minds in the way of creating a rational way of thinking and criticism, making them people less vulnerable to superstition, misinformation, swindles and hoaxes is a positive way? Well, I think it is a very positive way. Unfortunately you had not a Bill Nye in your childhood and thus you are asking this kind of bullshit. LEARN about Philosophy, specially read Kant.
M 2. Are you scared of a Divine Creator?
R 2. No, not specially. Do you believe in unicorns and mermaids? No? Is it because you are scared of unicorns or mermaids? (If you do believe in unicorns and mermaids then I'm absolutely disarmed LoL) LEARN how to not making silly correlations.
M 3. Is it completely illogical that the earth was created mature? i.e. trees created with rings… Adam created as an adult…
R 3. Yes, it is illogical. But in fact it is not a matter of Logic, but a matter of proofs of evidence that the current state of Earth was different in the past. LEARN what LOGIC means before using that word. And after that LEARN about Geology.
M 4. Does not the Second law of thermodynamics disprove Evolution?
R 4. Not at all. Second Law of Thermodynamics applies only to isolated systems. Earth is not isolated since it receives energy from Sun radiation. LEARN some basic Physics before claiming Physics arguments.
M 5. How do you explain a sunset if their is no God?
R 5. Well… Er… Earth has a rotation movement, what means that external objects (like sun) appear to move in the sky. Under some circumstances, Sun in its apparent movement reaches the horizon in what we call sun-set. And sometimes it is very beautiful. LEARN some basic Astronomy.
M 6. If the Big Bang Theory is true and taught as science along with evollution, why do the laws of thermodynamics debunk said theories?
R 6. For the Big Bang Theory mention, in fact the expansion of the universe is explained perfectly by the Second Law of Thermodynamics. For the evolucion mention, refer to point 4. Again, LEARN Physics.
M 7. What about noetics?
R 7. Noetics is not Science. What about [insert your favorite pseudo-science here]. LEARN what it Science and what is not.
M 8. Where do you derive objective meaning in life?
R 8. "Meaning" of life does not have anything to do with beliefs, but with personal situation. Let yourself starve near death and see how your "meaning of life" changes to merely FIND FOOD. LEARN about Anthropology and Philosophy.
M 9. If God did not create everything, how did the first single-celled organism originate? By chance?
R 9. Yes. That is exactly what happened. Really you don't believe in CHANCE? LoL Lottery sellers are sad listening this.
M 10. I believe in the Big Bang Theory… God said it and BANG it happened!
R 10. That's pretty a nonesense. We don't know (and we can't know, not me, not you), what happened BEFORE the Big Bang. I don't know if someone said "Let's Bang, guys!" Anyway it is what we call a singularity. A place in the space-time continuum where known described laws of Science cannot be applied. But it is far away from proving the existance of God, don't you think? LEARN some Theorical Physics, and read History of Time.
M 11. Why do evolutionists/secularists/humanists/non-God believing people reject the idea of their being a Creator God but embrace the concept of intelligent design from aliens or other extra-terrestrial sources?
R 11. Do the "evolutionists" as a collective embrace the concept of intelligent design from aliens. I consider myself as an evolutionist, and I think intelligent design is bullshit. LEARN not to generallize.
M 12. There is no inbetween… the only one found has been Lucy and there are only a few pieces of the hundreds necessary for an "official proof".
R 12. You're right. There is no inbetween. There are thounsands of them. There is not inbetween between you and your 18th Century ancestors. Exactly there are about 15 to 20 inbetweens. One for generation. BTW, where is written the exact number of hundreds necessary for an official proof? "Lucy" is a 40% complete skeleton. nearly a half is "a few pieces"? LEARN some mathematics, to understand what is "a few" and what is 40%. After that LEARN about Paleoanthropology and number of fossil evidence discovering. And finally LEARN how evolution works, and stop using that silly word, inbetween. Nobody use it TODAY when talking about Evolution.
M 13. Does metamorphosis help support evolution?
R 13. Biological metamorphosis has nothing against Evolution. It is a mechanism to make a life form more efficient in each stage of its lifetime. LEARN about Biology. After that LEARN how Evolution works, and may be you find it quite easier to understand than you think
M 14. If Evolution is a Theory (like creationism or the Bible) why then is Evolution taught as a fact.
R 14. I love this one. Theory, in Science, means a set of laws that explains a current event. BTW, Creationism is not a theory. It is a belief. LEARN what THEORY means. After that LEARN what BELIEF means. In your case learning will be very cheap. The Dictionary will be your best friend.
M 15. Because science by definition is a "theory" —not testable, observable, why do you object to creationism or intelligent design being taught in school?
R 15. Ma'am, you don't know a shit about what is Science. In fact Science MUST be repeatable, observable and testable since Newton times (about 400 years ago). Word Theory in Science is used not as "theoretical" statement but as a set of laws that explain a certain event. LEARN what is Science. And GOTO 14.
M 16. What mechanism has science discovered that evidence an increase of genetic information seen in any mutation or evolutionary process?
R 16. You start from a faulty statement. The evolutionary process does not mean increase of genetic information. Some ancient plants like Ophioglossaceae has more than a thousand chromosomes. A lot of early developed life forms have a chromosome count bigger than other newly developed lifeforms. That mechanism is what we call Evolution. And by the way, genetic information not only increases, it also decreases as a result of evolutionary process. LEARN about Biology and Evolution.
M 17. What purpose do you think you are here for if you do not believe in salvation?
R 17. No purpose at all. Or the same purpose of a pine tree, or a goat. Just let your gen pool to the next generation. Elevated purposes are not a matter of Biology but Philosophy. (No, not religion, nor superstition). And still I don't know what this bullshit has to do with Evolutionism.
M 18. Why have we found only 1 "Lucy", when we have found more than 1 of everything else?
R 18. First of all we have 9, not one Australopiths remains. An important point on change of discovering a fossil evidence of a given life form is the POPULATION of that life form. It is pretty easy to find Trilobite fossils since their population was absolutely great. Australopiths like Lucy were not a large population and originary from a relative little area in Tanzania. Despite this fact, they were pretty efficient and they succeed on population growth (and thus we are 7 billion now). LEARN about Ecology.
M 19. Can you believe in "the big bang" without faith?
R 19. The Big Bang is a fact. I do not need faith to think a fact is true. I "believe" there is a keyboard under my fingers without any faith, just paying attention to evidence. And I believe I live in a planet turning around a star, without any faith at all. LEARN about Astrophysics.
M 20. How can you look at the world and not believe Someone Created / thought of it? It's Amazing!!!
R 20. Yeah, my grandma's meatballs are amazing too and she's not a Goddess. Just an elderly human. LEARN about… well, think about yourself.
M 21. Relating to the big bang theory… Where did the exploding star come from?
R 21. It is partially introduced in point 9. We don't know what happened "before" the Big Bang (what was not a "exploding star", but I suppose I know what you mean). In fact we cannot know it, but we positively know it has nothing to do with the current state of the universe. What we know is that Big Bang is a singularity, a place in space-time that creates separate areas in the way that anything happening in one area cannot affect the others. So, whatever happened before the Big Bang, or even if there was a god saying "Let's rock!", it cannot interact with "this side" of the space-time. And of course it has nothing to do with Evolution. LEARN more about Physics.
M 22. If we come from monkeys then why are there still monkeys?
R 22. Well, that's a silly and simplistic way to express the question. Evolution means change. Change in a portion of a population. Some times the changing population survives thanks to that change and the non-changing population dies, something simply the changing population is able to conquer new territories as the original non-changed population remains in the original habitat. This is how some fishes succeed to "walk" from one pond to the next one, developing means to move on earth and breath atmospheric oxygen while other fishes remained unable to do that. So we have terrestrial vertebrates now and water-living vertebrates. In reference to the question, some millions of years now, some "monkey-like" animals (more similar to lemurs) were forced to explore new territories, and those which changed were more successful in their strive. Other monkey-like animals did not need to change since they had different habits, or lived in a non-changing habitat. And after millions of years of change, those changing monkey-like animals changed to bring different monkey-like animals potentiating the useful tools (hands, long arms, flat teeth) while the unuseful disappeared over the generation (like the tail). In this journey a lot of communities separated finding different status of equillibrium between change and life success, so you can find apes like gorillas or chimpanzees which also lost their unuseful lemur tail.
